Detroit is an official twenty-four paged doujinshi booklet illustrated by character designer Shigeto Koyama. Each page illustrates several scenes of Mad Burnish with Lio as the main focus. Current listings place the book in the hundreds, making it a rare item for collectors. However, digital distribution is not allowed as stated inside and by Koyama himself[1][2][3].

Appearance[]

Both the cover and contents of the book feature a limited palette of yellow and pink, giving an abstract look. Black and white are also used as contrast. Due to the small size of the book, no dialogue is present within. Visuals are of Lio mainly with the occasional cameo of Gueira and Meis. They are depicted casually interacting such as hanging out in the various pages. For the cover itself, Lio and Gueira are shown at the front alongside Lio's Burnish cycle, the doujin's titular origin. The back on the other hand has Meis and Detroit instead.

History[]

Originally sold at Comic Market 96 to promote the film, Detroit was given a limited release at an exhibition on August 11th, 2019. It would soon be rereleased temporarily during Comic Market 97 in December of the same year[1]. Due to the limited distribution of the booklet by Koyama and Center City Middle School, listings online place the book at an average of $120 with the book being out of stock on others, the original price being around $13[1]. No other official releases have occurred since[2]. From this, controversy has arisen in regards to preservation and online sharing. Koyama himself has shut down digital distribution of Promare related books and images through the likes of Twitter[3]. It is worth noting both Trigger and Xflag themselves had no involvement with the publishing unlike the storyboard collection.
