Heris Ardebit (エリス・アルデビット) is a character in Promare. As Aina's sister and the head scientist for the Foresight Foundation, she is willing to do anything for her sister.

Personality[]
Heris' personality is that of a hard worker. She is almost always shown doing research for Kray. Even with this, she is aware her assistance is putting lives at risk. She continues to work for the promise of keeping Aina safe. With that said, Heris is very protective of Aina. She aims to give her sister a better life and will risk everything to save her.
Heris is also very observant. This is made clear by her treatment towards Galo and previously mentioned research. Despite all this, Heris rarely has sympathy towards others besides Aina. The only exception to this is Galo, who was attacked in front of her. She continued to cooperate with Kray after breaking his promise which risks thousands of Burnish lives.
Appearance[]
Heris is a pale, thin woman with bobbed pink hair and blue eyes. She shares some of these features with her sister. She and her sister are about the same height. In certain shots, Heris is given freckles. Clothing wise, her most notable features are her rounded glasses, bobbed pink hair, white lab coat, and dark green sweater. With this, she also wears a grey skirt, black tights, and white shoes with green segments.
History[]
Before Promare[]
Heris was hired by Kray Foresight. She was put in charge of the Burnish teleportation experiments originally observed by Dr. Deus Prometh and Kray himself. Heris at first rejects the idea until Kray agrees to have Aina be enlisted on the ship.
Promare[]
Heris is first shown on a building screen, explaining warp engines to the populace. Lucia is the first to point her out to Aina. This results in a brief conversation about her. The group begin to wonder if they'll ever see them in their life time.
After listening to Kray's explanation about the Burnish experiments, Galo runs into Heris at the Foresight Foundation. She is shocked by his sudden appearance. Kray reassures her its fine, thus she begins a test on a restrained Burnish. After its success, she is made content with the results, smiling to herself up until Galo's disgust. Heris is then frightened by Kray as he punches and locks Galo up. After she later leaves with Kray, she admits that she didn't want anything to do with the migration plan. Kray then grabs her shoulder, placing his trust on her.
Sometime later after Freeze Force's attack on Mad Burnish, Heris leads another experiment, testing on hundreds of trapped Burnish. Of these Burnish is Gueira and Meis. As their screams fill the Promatech engine, Heris only watches the screen in front of her, commentating to Kray.
A week after, Heris unlocks Galo's cuffs and gives him his last meal. As she exits, Galo asks if Aina knows what Heris has done, making her defensive about the subject. She then leaves. Her sister finds her, demanding Galo be released. Heris refuses, claiming to have seen the younger man attack Kray herself. Heris then goes on, telling Aina to wait for a call later and hugs her.

Right before transportation, Heris begs for Kray to wait for Aina to be on board before they leave. As this was her main motivation, her actions are left pointless if her sister doesn't arrive. Kray instead refuses and threatens the scientist to get back to her post via guns pointed towards her. She does as she's told and runs the engine below.
Aina later contacts Heris. As she does so, a projection of Deus' murder is shown, revealing Kray as his murderer. Furthermore, Heris discovers that the transportation itself would only speed up the world's end. Kray then cuts off Aina's mic. In retaliation, Heris overloads the machine and runs away from Freeze Force. Aina later catches her from falling. She then collaborates with Lucia to form a drill for Galo to use to go save Lio.
In the aftermath, she is shown standing with Burning Rescue, Freeze Force, and Kray.

Heris is Aina's big sister. As such, she is fairly protective of her to where she will lie to her about what's going on. Aina is Heris' main motivation throughout the migration plan, as she works only to ensure her safety. Despite this, she continues to work with Kray when the pilot firefighter doesn't board. After Aina reveals footage of Deus' murder, Heris overloads the ship's power, leaving Kray to proclaim her love for her sister manipulated her. After she runs away and jumps, Aina catches her and she proceeds to help Burning Rescue.

Heris and Kray
As the head scientist for the Foresight Foundation, Heris cooperates with Kray and is charge of Burnish experiments and the migration plan. She only agrees to do so at the promise of her sister being on board for the transportation. Right before the ship heads out, Heris begs for Kray to wait for Aina. Kray responds by threatening her with armed guards. After the reveal of Deus' demise and the end result of the migration plan, she betrays Kray in turn and overloads the engine.
Galo[]
When Kray explains his plans to Galo, the two men head for Heris' lab, where an experiment is underway. She is surprised by Galo's presence, but puts that behind her when Kray reassures her its fine. According to Heris, Aina has a tendency to talk about him, giving her a positive impression of the young man. She even shows sympathy when he is punched by Kray and dragged away by guards. However, when Galo calls her out for hiding things from Aina and her hypocrisy, she immediately retorts and later lies about Galo's "terrorism" to Aina.
Burnish[]
Heris is the head scientist in charge of several Burnish experiments. She uses innocent Burnish such as the pizzeria employee to conduct research. She only shows sympathy when Galo points out the cruelty she enforces onto others. While her main motivation was her sister, she continued to cooperate and use the Burnish as a fuel source for the engine after being threatened during the Parnassus' launch.
Her means of destroying the engine was by overheating it through the Burnish. While it was confirmed no Burnish died during the procedure, Gueira, Meis, and the Elderly Burnish were shown screaming in previous scenes, making the process painful for those within. Her actions resulted in the several Burnish being captured by Freeze Force for her experiments and the Parnassus almost leaving up until the end. She was moreso affected by Aina revealing Deus' murder than the thousands of Burnish Heris herself inflicted torture upon.

Etymology[]
- Heris' last name “Ardebit” means “to burn” in Latin.
- Her first name comes from Hera, who is the Goddess of marriage & birth and wife of Zeus. She and Heracles were also credited as creating the Milky Way in mythology. Her vengeful nature made her a prominent figure in many mythological tales.
- Hera is occasionally depicted as the mother of Hephaistos, where Vulcan's name originates from.
- Hera is also a synonym to era, meaning an indeterminate length of time.
- Heris is also a capital city in Iran.
Story Concepts[]
- In concept art, Heris bore no bangs and much longer hair in pigtails. She was also a foot shorter than her sister.
- She would also switch between having circular or square-framed glasses.
- In storyboards for Lio's awakening, Heris is shown. She is depicted with her older design and an early version of the Promatech engine.
- In an earlier version of Galo and Heris' discussion in the cell, after Galo questions her about Aina, she was to claim that Galo never was on the Parnassus' listing and that he doesn't know anything, not even about himself.
- Early scripts claim her to be in her late twenties, however it’s unknown if this is still true in the finale version.

- Her Japanese voice actress, Ami Koshimizu, also voiced Rosa from the Umineko series, Yukako in Persona 4, and Ryuko from Kill la Kill.
- Heris' English voice actress, Erica Lindbeck, is known for voicing for Futaba in Persona 5, Pakunoda from Hunter x Hunter, and Mattel's Barbie. She also provides Thyma's voice in the movie.
- In the English dub, her name is mispronounced as 'Ellis.' This is due to them sharing the same katakana (エリス).
