Lio-hen, also known as Side Lio, is a spin-off prequel of Promare. It shows various events leading up to the movie in Mad Burnish's perspective.
Plot[]
During the events of Lio-hen, Gueira and Meis, the leaders of Mad Burnish, enact a plan in which they set a local Foresight Pharmaceutical ablaze. The duo drive off from the team and summon flames amongst the area. This evokes the attention of Burning Rescue, who later encounter the bikers. As this is going on, Galo rescues a woman from within the building. She awakens and feels a shock in her body. The woman, Thyma, has become a Burnish. Before Aina or Galo can do anything else, Gueira and Meis take her away and drive off.
The trio arrive where the rest of Mad Burnish are alongside non-MB Burnish. Thyma is left confused and scared about what she has become and ends up lighting the two men on fire. As Gueira and Meis are Burnish as well, this has no effect on them. They tell her that, from now on, this is how life is for her and, if she so wished, she could join them. The group then notices an approaching Freeze Force. While Mad Burnish attempts to distract them, non-MB Burnish resort to running the other direction. Thyma briefly stops, likely watching Gueira and Meis drive off.
Soon enough, Freeze Force has Mad Burnish surrounded. Vulcan reveals that he predicted their plan and that other Burnish such as Thyma have been captured and are currently being deported. Before either leader can do anything, Vulcan freezes them both. As the police force is about to leave, an arrow shoots through the air, destroying a nearby vehicle. Lio arrives and fends off Freeze Force and releases as many Mad Burnish members as possible. When Gueira attempts to kill the group though, LIo stops him and they run off.
At sunset, Gueira and Meis question Lio for his methods, who states that killing would merely raise prejudice against the Burnish. He instead offers that they live far away from others, removing any concerns of police brutality or harm. They agree to do so as Gueira and Meis state their names.
Lio then properly introduces himself to Mad Burnish.

Trivia[]
- Lio-hen was the last short that has appeared in American theatres. While there were plans for a complete showing with both shorts and the movie, the Coronavirus pandemic would cause the event to be postponed[1]. GKids would later reannounce the complete showing for September 2021 on their official accounts[2].
