Lio de Galon is an alternative version of the Deus X Machina mecha engineered by Deus. Created by Lio to fulfill Galo's desires during their fight against Kray and a mech composed of Burnish flame armor, this is the primary version used by them in the film. The name itself comes from Galo finding the previous name boring and wishing to illustrate the duo's newfound teamwork.
Appearance[]
As an alternative version of Deus X Machina, this mech is of a humongous size with sleek noir armor bearing pink and teal segments. Said segments represent Lio and Galo respectively. Unlike its predecessor, hands and feet cover the canons within. Over four horns can be seen atop the machine's head where the pilots are found. It's chest bears a mouth-like indentation. For the pilot room, a core specifically for the Burnish occupant is seen. This is what fuels the mech without causing pain. At the front is the non-Burnish area for switches and buttons. The mech's rear is shown having a short tail.
History[]
Promare[]
Arriving at the floating Parnassus, Kray takes note of the flying mecha in thanks to Biar and has it shot down. It suddenly falls down due to one of its pilots—Galo—finding the machine plain in design. Frustrated, Lio proceeds to redesign the mech to please him. This immediately excites Galo who then poses the new mech and renames it to 'Lio de Galon.' He claims the name to be superior to 'Deus X Whatever.' As he commentates this to Lio, Kray attempts to shoot the mech again. This results in them punching the tower atop the ship.

However, they soon realize this is getting them nowhere. They thus attempt to dig into the ship to no avail. As this goes on, Kray decides to take matters in his own hands and comes out in his own machine to fight. The group is then launched into the floating city inside. Throughout the fight, Lio de Galon is shown to struggle due to its size compared to Krazor-X—which was also named by Galo. However, Galo comments that a lack of a Matoi is what causing said struggles. Lio then decides to create one for him. At this, the duo manage to fight back only for Heris to destroy the promatech engine. The Parnassus and all its occupants proceed to fall upward.
Atop the ship once more, Krazor-X soon tries to freeze the mech. However, with the use of the canons inside Lio de Galon's arms, they successfully freeze both mechs in place. Here, Kray proceeds to taunt Lio. This results in Lio attempting revenge against Kray who is left unaffected as a Burnish himself. Kray then proceeds to launch Galo off the mechs and takes both Lio and the Lio de Galon's Burnish core away with him to fuel the engine below.
After Galo reunites with a now-saved Lio, Lio reveals his plan to set the Earth ablaze to free the Promare. Galo is at first conflicted but then agrees. Inside the core, they use the Burnish's teal flames to create Galo de Lion from Lio de Galon.
Abilities[]
- Grabbing and clinging: As this variant has hands, it is able to lift itself up, punch objects, or even grab. This is far more demonstrated in the fight with Krazor-X.
- Kicking: Lio de Galon kicks into the ground at an attempt to break the Parnassus' surface open. It manages to make a large indent.
- Regeneration: Lio can recreate broken pieces of armor so long as they are of his own creation.
- Matoi Decked Out: At Galo's request, Lio ends up making a Matoi for him to use to both rally themselves up and fight with.

Trivia[]
- The amount of horns on a Burnish armor mech is an indication of the user's power. As it depicts the machine with four horns, this implies Galo and Lio to be stronger together[1].
- According to the Hiroyuki Imaishi Anime Artworks collection, Lio de Galon is larger than the titular Gunmen from Gurren Lagann as well as the Ultimate Double Naked DTR from Kill la Kill[2][3].
- Lio de Galon is currently the only mecha in the film to have a model kit.
Etymology[]
- The particle of de in Japanese is to indicate "from," "at," or "material." Thus, this gives the potential meanings of "Galo made of Lio" or "Galo from Lio" for example[4].
- For both Spanish and Latin, de is used to mean "from" or "belong." It thus implies the name meaning "Lio of Galo" or Lio belongs to Galo[5].
Intertextuality and References[]
- According to staff in a Twitch stream, Lio de Galon’s chest design is based on Senketsu from Kill la Kill[6].
- In a crossover with the PvP game Super Mecha Champions, Lio de Galon was made as the only SP unit where players are required to achieve both Matoi Tech, Lio's Burnish Armor, and two passes in order to obtain the mech via the game's gacha.
- In the Spanish dub of Promare, Galo makes references to the series Sailor Moon during Lio de Galon's transformation, specifically the catchphrase of "In the name of the Moon, I'll punish you."
