Mad Burnish

Mad Burnish (マッドバーニッシュ) is a Burnish organization responsible for the majority of attacks in the city of Promepolis. While their public motivation is only to burn anything and everything, in reality, their actions are driven by a desire to not only protect all other Burnish but also enact the will of the Promare.

Known Members

• Lio Fotia - Newest leader of Mad Burnish. One to enact a no-killing policy and maps out a separation plan. Rides on a motorcycle.
• Gueira - Previous leader of Mad Burnish. Would typically target Foresight Pharmaceutical. Adorned in a bull-like armor.
• Meis - Previous leader of Mad Burnish. Cooperates with Gueira. Adorned in a bug-like armor.
• Sunglasses Burnish - A member with no official name, he acts as watchman for the group in Lio-hen.

Armory

The Mad Burnish utilizes a powerful trait among Burnish where they are able to harden the flames around them into physical objects and technology. This allows them to create their iconic black armor and their respective vehicles. The Mad Burnish has also been shown to create more situational equipment, such as an artillery cannon, enormous dragons of flame, and even reconstructing previous armor such as Deus X Machina.

• As indicated in the Great World Blaze, Mad Burnish has existed for thirty years.
• Despite common fan misconceptions, not everyone who is Burnish is a Mad Burnish member. The pizzeria employee would be one such example.
• Lio became the newest leader in Lio-hen, where it is implied Lio never knew the previous leaders before the shorts' events.
• In some concept art, Thyma is referred to as "Mad Burnish Lady."

Etymology

• According to Geekboat, the names of Lio and co's bikes are cities in the United States of America. Gueira's is Miami, Meis' Dallas, and Detroit being Lio's. It is unknown if this only applies to them or all members.

Intertextuality and References

• The Burnish armor Lio and co. adorn resembles the EVA cyborgs from Neon Genesis Evangelion.
  • Certain staff members of Trigger such as Imaishi previously worked at Gainax.
  • They also bear a resemblance to the living Symbiote costume of Venom from the Spider-man series.
• The primary inspirations of Lio and co.'s armor, however, are typical apparels of American biker gangs, with helmets being based on motorcross as well as Fūjin and Raijin from Japanese mythology.
