Matoi Tech, or Matoi Techer in the English version of the limited edition booklet and Super Mecha Champions, is a human-sized mech created by Lucia for Galo to use during rescues. Unlike Varys or Remi's rescue gears, speed and movement are the main focus with no cargo mechanisms.

Appearance

The Matoi Tech's metal shell is of a white and red palette mainly. Orange and blues can also be seen. It's visor is a green tint. A Burning Rescue logo can be seen above it. On the mech's left shoulder pad is the number '3.' When worn by the user, their arms and legs are inserted into the machine's metal armor, leaving the chest area bare. The back is covered by the machine's seat. Matoi Tech also features gray hands mainly used for its partnering staff.

When folded into said staff, it is shrunk down massively with yellow and blue fabrics strung outward. The limbs are huddled together inside. This allows for portability.

History

Promare

Sometime after the events of Galo-hen, Lucia created the machine to use against Mad Burnish. Only Lucia and Galo were aware of its existence before its reveal. Galo uses it to defeat both Gueira and Meis. Lio, however, ends up destroying it. This later backfires as Lio is soon trapped within, causing him to lose his armor.

After Galo escapes his cell and reunites with Burning Rescue, Lucia reveals that she repaired the mecha for Galo to use. He is then launched out of the rescue truck to where Lio is. His staff is used to destroy Lio's dragon, resulting in the duo to be caught by Aina. While they are inside her ship, a fight breaks out within. Galo and Lio proceed to fight each other in hand-to-hand combat. They are then dropped out into the frozen lake.

After Galo nearly dies from falling—specifically off the frozen Krazor-X and Lio de Galon, Lucia and Heris assist in sending him to the ship's core where Lio is. He is adorned in the Matoi Tech once more and uses the scientists' drill to pierce the core. As Kray confronts Galo, he attempts to burn him to death, destroying the mecha one last time. Galo himself remains though.

Abilities

• Grabbing: The Matoi Techer, unlike Varys or Remi's gear, allows for the user to grab smaller objects such as Galo's staff and weaponry with its hands. This also accounts for its speed and agility. It is unable to hold up roofs akin to the V-type though.
• Speed: Speed is the main priority for the Matoi Tech. It can reach a Burnish Cycle relatively fast and allows for easier movement.
• Gaen Gear: When the Matoi Tech is released from its staff, the long-range object becomes that of a weapon to Galo. It can be converted into various objects. These include a water chainsaw used as a sword for combat— able to deflect Lio's arrows, or a freeze gun shooting similar to a submachine gun or assault rifle. It also resembles a tobiguchi.
• Magnet lock-down: During Burning Rescue's fight with Lio, he finds one of the Matoi Tech plates stuck on his armor. At Lucia's command, the rest then join in, encasing him in a freezing container.
• Cooling system: Certain shots of the fight with Lio show ice shooting from the mech's hands. This is specifically shown while launched in the air grabbing at the Burnish armor. After being trapped inside the Matoi Tech, all of Lio's armor was crushed and frozen off inside the machine. Steam comes out from within. Furthermore, Lio's sword is frozen.
• Projections: Using a small device Lucia made, Galo is able to project Powerpoints and siren lights for him to use as a distraction. It resembles a small tower.
• Drill: Thank to Lucia installing a drill mode, it can dig through strong armors, thick metal and the Promatech Engine. After freeing Lio, Galo attempts to use the drill on his staff against Kray, but Kray only ends up destroying the entire Matoi Tech itself.

Trivia

• Matoi in ancient history were flags used by Edo period firemen who would climb atop buildings to guide fellow colleagues or survivors. Nowadays they are used exclusively for ceremonies.

Story Concepts

• Early drawings of Galo depict him with a backpack hose where the end can be turned into a weapon, a full body firefighter suit, and enormous mech arms worn over the shoulders.
• According to storyboards, Galo was to attempt using a defibrillator attached to the Matoi Tech. However, this was scrapped due to being redundant. It is unknown if the final version still has said defibrillator—presumably no.
