Varys Truss (バリス・トラス) is a character in Promare.
A member of Burning Rescue, in charge of heavy machinery. He's a muscular guy in his 30s, and he's always training his body. He partners with the diminutive Lucia when out on a job.

Personality[]
A giant with an amiable personality who takes pride in his form, Varys doesn't just do heavy lifting, but is also the heavy machinery operator of Burning Rescue. In scenes of emergency, he is seen rescuing various survivors and carrying them via cargo containers. He is quick-thinking during rescues and, like Aina and Ignis, may occasionally call Galo out for his slacking. He takes his work seriously. Both him and Galo also appear to have a love for pizza.
In both canon and official art, Varys has a tendency to carry those smaller than him piggy-back style.
Appearance[]
Varys is a dark skinned muscular man sporting a ginger goatee and white bandage on his nose. His uniform consists of a yellow shirt featuring Burning Rescue's logo, black and yellow suspenders, red pants with yellow segments, and black and yellow boots. His arms also have black arm warmers. Alongside this, Varys wears a red and white sports cap. Like all other members of Burning Rescue, Varys has a '3' on his uniform. It can be found on his left pant leg.
History[]
Galo-hen[]
Varys is first shown watching Galo's introduction from the headquarter's couch. He doesn't commentate on it and only silently observes. When the building's alarms go off, Varys carries Lucia on his shoulders to the truck. He and Lucia watch Galo's bickering with Remi. Later, he cooperates with Aina, Remi, and Ignis for rescue operations. The quartet then encounter Mad Burnish's leaders, Gueira and Meis. From this, Galo takes the initiative to go rescue the remaining survivor.
After a successful rescue, Varys and his colleagues begin to trust Galo.
Promare[]
At the beginning of the movie, Varys and his colleagues are tasked with putting out fires at Foresight Pharmaceutical, both him and Remi are the first to go inside. After dealing with several Burnish flares and preventing building collapse, the duo proceed to carry survivors down. Later, when Lio almost defeats Galo, Varys and other members overwhelm the new leader via several attacks. They successfully capture him alongside Gueira and Meis.
Afterwards, Varys is with several other Burning Rescue members at a local pizzeria to celebrate their recent success. They talk alongside the shop's owner about the Burnish. Eventually, the group gets to talking about Aina's sister, Heris, who is displayed on a nearby building discussing warp drives. Varys wonders if they will ever see them in their lifetime. Suddenly Freeze Force arrives and apprehends both an employee and the owner. Besides Aina and Galo, the other Burning Rescue members can only watch.
A tuckered out Varys
When Galo is arrested, Varys is found alongside Lucia working on mechanics. Varys notes that the young man had disappeared about a week before. His response to Ignis' news is the same as the others: shock and confusion. Eventually, the group find a flaming Galo during Lio's attack on Promepolis. Varys and Lucia are forced to put him out with cooling gel inside the truck with Lucia later launching him out. They are left tired after dealing with Lio's flames in the city and watch Deus X Machina's attack on Kray.
After Heris' betrayal of Kray, Varys is found fighting alongside his other Burning Rescue members against Freeze Force. Varys is later found in the aftermath sitting alongside his teammates and Freeze Force.
Relationships[]
Lucia[]
Lucia is the closest member to Varys, as indicated by their interactions throughout Galo-hen and Promare. He will occasionally cooperate with her on engineering and even carry her around the station. Lucia helps guide Varys and other on-duty members amongst various fire hazards. During Lio's attack on Promepolis, Varys and Lucia are together in the Mega Max analyzing the scene or fueling Remi's ammo. They are forced to put out Galo together.
Galo[]
Galo may be the second closest member to Varys due to their shared interest in pizza. Varys is also willing to joke around with Galo, such as when he hits his head after the fight with Lio. Both him and Lucia put out Galo when his pants are set ablaze by Lio. Despite this, he is critical of Galo's unprofessionalism. Specifically his impulsive nature. However, like his peers, he begins to trust him more after his rescue of Thyma. During Lio's attack on Promepolis, Varys and Lucia are forced to put him out inside the Mega Max.
Burning Rescue[]
Varys is in charge of collecting survivors and putting out Burnish fires with a mechanical armor. Through cooperation with his teammates, Varys plays a large role in rescues, earning him respect from his co-workers. Off-duty, Varys will sometimes hang out with them at restaurants.

- In concept art, Varys appears to not wear a shirt in earlier designs or not have any logos. The former has him instead wear shoulder straps akin to the group in Kill la Kill, Nudist Beach.
